Tobacco Products Advertising Banned, Ukraine News

The law banning tobacco products advertising has come into force. The document was signed by President Viktor Yanukovych and published in March, but has come into force as of September 16 according to transition provisions. The law bans any advertisement and encouragement to sell tobacco products, logos for goods and services and other items of intellectual property rights under which tobacco products are available. The law imposes administrative responsibility against citizens and officials for violating the law provisions on banning tobacco products advertising and sponsoring. As Ukrainian News reported, the Verkhovna Rada banned tobacco goods advertising since September 22, 2011. Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Lytvyn in November 2012 postponed signing of the law banning advertisement of tobacco goods until inconsistencies in its text are eliminated. The Ukrainian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs in March asked President Viktor Yanukovych to veto the law on banning the advertisement of tobacco products.
